1987 Phantom Regiment – “The Mouse King”

“The Mouse King” is from Phantom Regiment’s production of Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker,” the second half of the “Songs for the Winter Palace” show that premiered the corps’ new white uniforms.

“The Nutcracker” was written in 1892, based on the novella, “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King” written by German author E.T.A. Hoffman. It is an annual standard for Christmastime presentations, both in its original ballet and orchestral suite forms. “The Mouse King” comes near the end of the first of the ballet’s two acts, when the lead character does battle with the leader of the mice that have come to eat the gingerbread soldiers.
