Early this morning news broke of a bus involved accident in Quartzsite, AZ which included many injured and the driver being killed. A short time later we found out that it was the Phantom Regiment Staff/Volunteer Bus.
Right away the big family we call Drum Corps, stepped into action to do whatever they could to help our Phamily in need. As everyone knows, The Academy Drum and Bugle Corps is based out of Tempe, AZ and a large handful of current Academy volunteers as well as Alumni started doing anything they can to help out.
A short time ago Academy volunteers and alumni started driving out to Quartzsite to pick up any luggage that they could to bring back to Phantom Regiment who are staying at Queen Creek High School in Queen Creek Arizona.
The official Phantom Regiment website just released an update about 10 minutes ago with more information.
The driver of the bus died at the scene. Eight of the 13 passengers were transported to hospitals. All are expected to be released today. The passengers included members of the cooking, souvenir and tour management teams.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family members of the deceased driver, but we are grateful that there weren’t anymore deaths and that all 8 who were transported to the hospital are expected to be released today.
If you’re wondering how you can help Phantom Regiment during this time we will list a few options below.
- Donate To the Fueled By Phans Campaign
- Sign Up To Volunteer – http://regiment.org/volunteers/
- Donate on GoFundMe – https://www.gofundme.com/phantom-regiment-food-support-fund
All of these are great ways to help show your support, and if you’re in Arizona tonight, you can stop by Mesa Community College for the Drums Across The Desert to show all of the performers your support through these tough times for them.
This is a heart breaking time for everyone in the Drum Corps family, especially for Phantom Regiment members, staff, volunteers and alumni from all over the world who can’t be there with them today.
If there’s any other updates, we will make sure to keep you all updated.
::UPDATE:: – 12:39 PM AZ
We have gotten word from those within The Academy that the Phantom Regiment will not be performing this evening at Mesa Community College. There’s also no word whether or not they will be attending, but members of Phantom who have been texting with some involved with The Academy appreciate the love and support that they have been receiving from the DCI Community.
